The printers are located in the 3E common printer counter section. To install printers:
For Windows: - Goto CMD (Command Prompt)
- Type
NET USE LPT2: \\itsec.it.usyd.edu.au\pr1-3e21 /SAVECRED /PERSISTENT:YES
- Enter your Unikey username and password. If authentication is rejected, please seek SIT duty programmers for support.
- Goto Printer Setting and select "Add local printer"
- Select HP LaserJet 4100 as the printer.
- Use LPT2 as the printer port
- Type
NET USE to check the service status are OK
- If the printing preferences do not show the "Print on both sides" option:
- Goto Printer properties->Device settings
- Under "Installable options' set the "Duplex Unit" to installed
For Mac: - Goto System Preference->Print and Fax
- Click the '+' sign to add printer
- The Advanced icon is hidden, so right-click on top part of the bar, and select Customize Toolbar
- Drag the Advanced icon onto the Print and Fax top bar
- Click Advanced
- Set type to Windows
- Set URL to
smb://itsec.it.usyd.edu.au/pr1-3e21
- Set Print Using to HP Laserjet 4100
- Click Add
- Select Duplex Unit and Printer Hard Drive as RAM Disk
- This will add the printer. Now goto the Print Queue page and do a Printer->Print Test page
- Enter your SIT username and password and select remember password (add to the keychain)
For Ubuntu/Linux: - Edit the file /etc/samba/smb.conf
- In the [global] section, append the line client lanman auth = yes. Save the file and exit. This instructs smbclient to send plaintext password.
- In the desktop, go to System->Administration->Printing
- Add Printer type "Windows Printer via SAMBA"
- Set SMB address to smb://itsec.it.usyd.edu.au/pr1-3e21
- Put your UniKey username and password in the authentication panel.
- Go next and select HP LaserJet 4100
- Select Duplex Unit and Printer Hard Drive as RAM Disk
- This will add the printer. Now goto the Print Queue page and do a Printer->Print Test page.
After installing the printer driver, don't forget to enable duplex mode to save paper! Also, set the available printer memory to 48MB. |
